Day02

Fez, the First Imperial City

Fez → full day → local guide

A guided tour of Fez, the oldest of the imperial cities, founded in the late 8th century. The medina is still organized by trade guilds, the lanes are so narrow that donkeys are the only transport, and among the alleys you'll find the Andalusian quarter, mosques and Quranic schools. This is also home to Al-Qarawiyyin, founded in 859 and one of the oldest universities in the world.

Fez → Casablanca → Marrakech

Breakfast and an early start south. It is a long day on the road, with a stop in Casablanca, the country's economic and industrial capital, for a panoramic tour of the city and the Hassan II Mosque, a work of modern Moroccan architecture that took more than 3,000 artisans to build. Going inside is optional. Arrival in Marrakech in the afternoon and check-in at your riad.

The city offers much more: the Majorelle Garden, the Menara, the Saadian Tombs, walks through the medina or the mellah, the old Jewish quarter, a loop along the city walls and the modern district of Gueliz, with a more Western way of life.
